OLD CREEK DOG PARK OF CHERRYLAND: Dog-friendly Hayward Alameda County Review

Posted by

OVERVIEW

In the East Bay’s City of Hayward; known for its robust agriculture and canning industries (including Hunts cannery), resides Old Creek Dog Park of Cherryland. This park offers two small gated off-leash areas segregated by size in a residential community. There is limited seating and water fountains in both dog parks. If you are looking for a quick romp for your dog in the East Bay, you can do the CANGO at Old Creek Dog Park of Cherryland.

HOW PET-FRIENDLY IS IT?

I would recommend this park if any of the following applies to you: (1) you are in the area and want to give you dog a chance to relieve itself and run around a little bit; and/or (2) your dog does not need a lot of exercise or perhaps has an unreliable recall and you want them to have a chance to socialize a bit (though it was pretty quiet and we went on a Saturday in the early afternoon).

It is very easy to find a place to dispose of waste in the dog park areas as there is a doody bag dispenser in each area and large waste cans as well. Each area has its own water fountain as well.

Although it is somewhat basic, it is actually quite well thought out for a small neighborhood park. You may not be able to get a lot of exercise with your dog, but the fact that there are separate areas by size (a big plus in terms of safety), functioning water fountains, and bag dispensers is pretty impressive for a small neighborhood park.

IS IT CONVENIENT OR A PAIN IN THE —?

There is a small but adequate free lot. It is not located where one may expect to find a dog park. It is located in a residential neighborhood close to a somewhat industrial part of Hayward. However, the park’s somewhat odd location offers quiet, which can be a nice change of pace for some.

Old Creek Dog Park of Cherryland is fairly close to where Interstates 580 and 880 connect via 238, so it is equally accessible by either.

The closest 24/7 emergency vet is VCA Bay Area Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Hospital located at 14790 Washington Ave in San Leandro. This hospital is about 2.75 miles away or a 7-minute drive.
