GO ON A WALK: Take your cat on a leashed walk (just like dogs, but maybe shorter).
HIDE-AND-SEEK: our cat spike (rescued calico) loved to play hide-and-seek. She would even climb up the side of our beds and hide under the sheets; then she would call out to us to come look for us with a low, steady meow.
FOOD-INSPIRED ENRICHMENT: I have seen this done at zoos and wildlife museums (with bobcats, lynxes, and cougars). You can stimulate your cat’s innate hunting instincts by hiding treats and food in frugal friendly/ budget conscious boxes or bags that they have to tear up or just in unusual spots (meaning not in their food bowl) throughout your home or lodging.
CAT-TV: Set up your own cat screening room and let them watch something on the old boob tube. Our cat spike used to love to sit on the television and swat at airplanes in WW II movies. Picture King Kong on the Empire State Building but swap the giant gorilla with a calico cat and the Empire State Building with a pre-flat-screen TV.
TOYS: There are many toys with feathers dangling from strings or a bouncy pole that will stimulate your cat. Our cat used to love Chinese yo-yos, I think because the noise it made sounded like reeds in the wind.
JUMP ON THE MEDICAL MARIJUANA WAVE: Stimulate your cat with natural catnip as a plant or in toys. I give my dog CBD and it does seem to help with pain.
