Foster City, California, a dog-friendly city by SFO airport just outside of San Francisco; in fact, I recall its claim to fame being the “Foster City” sign that you could see as you land. Foster City offers amenities for pets and their people, primarily the Foster City Dog Park. This fenced dog park provides two nicely sized sections: one for small dogs up to 35 pounds and another for larger breeds. I like separate facilities because they make it safer to socialize small dogs and also puppies and seniors. The park utilizes a mix of synthetic turf and decomposed granite for a clean and low-maintenance environment. Some amenities include water stations, waste disposal stations, and agility equipment.
In addition to the official dog park, Foster City also offers dog-friendly areas including Leo J Ryan Memorial Park, Shorebird Park for leashed areas to walk with your dogs with other dog lovers and owners; and Boothbay Park and Edgewater Park during designated early morning hours. In keeping with many Bay Area cities, Foster City is home to many pet-friendly businesses if you want to get a drink or grab a bite or treat.
