DELAROSA: Dog-friendly Restaurants San Francisco Video Review

OVERVIEW

In the city of San Francisco. Home to Moscone Center, Yerba Buena and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Close to the intersection of 3rd and Mission in the South of Market district, resides Delarosa restaurant (offering pet-friendly eats). Known for hip Italian cuisine and refreshing cocktails offered in a casual yet classy environment and serving pets and their people in an outside pet-friendly area.

If you’re looking for a pet-friendly place to EAT, go do the CANGO at Delarosa.

Delarosa [Note: Downtown location featured in this review] is a fun and trendy hip place to go, and I would not describe all restaurants that welcome pets this way. Many sidewalk café areas in the city are anything but inviting to those with pets. There are many upscale restaurants in the SOMA district that may make a pet owner feel uncomfortable by being too chic and crowded. There are some places that will let you sit outside with your dog, but you feel like an oddball doing so.

IS THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT/SERVICE WORTH A VISIT?

When I was filming this review, a number of people came by to check out the menu and we mutually greeted each other with smiles as they did so because the restaurant has a friendly vibe. I have eaten at Delarosa a few times and appreciate that their approach to Italian cuisine takes into consideration health trends of the Bay Area population; for example, they offer chicken meatballs not just beef or red meat; and the bed of greens served with the SPIEDINI scallops, citrus, leeks, fingerling potatoes  16 skewers I had included baby kale which is a hit for cruciferous veggie fans like myself.  I loved the ANTIPASTI dungeness crab arancini, calabrese aioli $12: they were crispy without being greasy- definitely on my list of recommendations. The COCKTAILS Salty Dog vodka, elderflower, grapefruit, salt $11 was refreshing like spiked lemonade. It would be perfectly suited for a hot summer day (unlike the windy, foggy day when I shot the review). The TORTA DI CIOCCOLATO molten chocolate cake, vanilla gelato, whiskey pecan caramel sauce $10 was sinful as any rich dessert should be- I really liked the pecans that gave an added quality of freshness and crunch to offset the sweet chocolate cake.

HOW PET-FRIENDLY IS IT?

The outdoor area isn’t as polished and decorated as the interior, but certainly still casual and more than adequate. Although the inside area is more hip and happening for those looking for a good time, the service in either area is friendly and attentive– our server was very warm, attentive, and extremely pet-friendly, which Lovie loved.  And I have eaten in the interior without Lovie and it was very lively on a weekday evening, a lot of people blowing off steam after work.

The comfort level of the pet-friendly environment is pretty good: even though it is located in a busy neighborhood with a lot of foot traffic, it is on a pleasant pathway that provides a balance of people watching and peacefulness. They do provide outdoor lighting and heaters, but unfortunately, I have to admit that it can get cold and breezy even with the heaters so layer, layer- layer!  I was foolishly optimistic about the weather and ended up freezing my butt. Given the proximity to downtown San Francisco, street parking is not very easy to find on weekdays, so going on a weekend or parking in a paid lot would be your best bet, (unless you live, work, or are staying at a hotel nearby and can walk from there).

They do not have any special dog rules other than having a leash and keep pets off the furniture, especially tables out of courtesy to non-pet patrons. They do a set of communal water bowls outside, but no special pet menus or treats offered.

IS IT CONVENIENT OR A PAIN IN THE —?

The surrounding area is very pet and pedestrian friendly as there is a nice park in the Yerba Buena Gardens area across the street, so I think it is safe to say that most pet owners would feel comfortable walking around with a pet.

It is very easy to find a convenient and proper place to dispose of waste like doody bags with trash bins located within approximately 10 feet from the outdoor seating area.

There are a number of small fenced dog parks in the SOMA district like Victoria Manalo Draves Park, located less than a mile away on Folsom and Sherman . Though I have to admit that whenever we drive into SF, we try to hit Crissy Field East Beach.

The closest emergency vet is the San Francisco SPCA Veterinary Hospital located on Alabama Street in Rescue Row. [Please note: we provide this information as a resource not a recommendation.]*
