Meet KandL
Who is the “K” in KandL
Kamala is the “K” in KandL. She is a lifelong pet person and Bay Area native. She is also a professional video producer and recent amateur gardener. As an active person, she loved exploring parks with her athletic little dog, Lovie. Her passion for the environment inspired her to upcycle a lot of what others would consider junk into a creative pet safe container garden for her little rescue dog, Lovie to enjoy. She decided to put her video production and journalistic skills to good use for a cause that is near and dear to her- animals!
Who is the “L” in KandL
Lovie is the “L” in KandL. He is an ARF grad. ARF is Tony LaRussa’s Animal Rescue Foundation. For legal reasons and logistics they have recently changed their name to Joybound. We adopted Lovie in 2008 when many of the rescue organizations were overwhelmed by surrenders from people who were losing their homes to foreclosures. What I liked about ARF is how they scrutinized the match before placing and animal in a household. I discovered them when I was checking out different places to adopt after practice. I used to race triathlons for six years, 2008 was my first year.
Lovie instantly caught my eye because he was having so much fun playing with another dog, who turned out to be the only female puppy in the pen. He captured my heart when the puppies were taking a nap together and they were sleeping in a line like a row of dominoes. She was the last in the line and he was second to last, next to her. He was trying to sleep like the others, but she wanted to play. She was chewing on his ear and made a playful “roar” face trying to entice him to play. He looked her up and down, gave her a kiss, and then went back to sleep. He was so sweet, that I just feel in love with that little red dog.
Lovie is featured in many of these video walk-thru reviews. He loved going to the parks, making friends, and having a good time. We hope these videos help you decide where to go with your pets for your next active adventure.
Transcript of Kamala’s Intro & Backstory
Hi Everybody, this is Kamala and Lovie. I want to introduce ourselves and why we’re doing this project, Pets Can Go, because we want to promote pet friendliness and we want to promote pet adoption, like dogs like Lovie, who is an ARF graduate (now joybound), who would otherwise join the six million dogs and cats. I don’t know if that also includes hamsters and robbits, but all domestic animals. Every year, six million get put down. And we don’t want that to happen. So in order to promote pet adoption and save lives, we’re promoting pet-friendly businesses and hoping that you will help us save lives and have fun doing it. And I guess that’s enough to say. I could go into the whole story about Mama Cat, who is the cat that you see dancing the tango, cango with Lovie.
Remember Mama Cat? Mama Cat was a feral cat who lived in our backyard and Lovie had a love-hate relationship with her, mainly hate, because he couldn’t go in the backyard when she was training her kittens, and that really pissed him off. So that’s why I thought we’d have the two of them doing the tango, but we’re calling it the cango. And Mama Cat, when I was trying to catch her and get her fixed after she had her kittens, and trying to get her kittens placed, boy did I become educated about how hard it is for the smaller rescue groups to try to place animals, and they’re all volunteers. And so I thought, wow, it would be really good to try to help them get above the noise.
All right, thank you for visiting, and I hope that you will visit these different businesses and spend your money with businesses that make it easier to be a pet owner and fun, and that you will support the different rescue groups by visiting them and donating and adopting from them.
